"... I only want to emphasize that what happened can't be called a nationality-based conflict. Only certain extremist elements that have conferred upon themselves the right to express 'national interests' have been involved in it. It is they who are inflaming passions, sowing rumors and disseminating spurious photographs. I believe that the traditional kindhearted relations among Meskhetian Turks, Uzbeks and representatives of other nationalities, who for many long years have shared bread and salt, will prevail over emotions, over the blindness of these tragic days. I don't want to oversimplify the present situation in any way, but at the same time I can say that, with the help of the units of the Ministry of Internal Affairs troops that are arriving, we are gaining control of the situation."

Answer.On June 3 and 4 we clearly didn't have enough manpower. All the deaths occurred on those days. According to the latest figures, there are 71 dead. ... One policeman died. ...
In order to protect the lives of the Meskhetian Turks to a certain degree, at 12 noon on June 4 we started evacuating them temporarily to a safe place, a military unit's training center. About 10,000 people have been moved. The republic government has allocated 15 million rubles for their accommodation. We are delivering tents and bedding there, we are setting up a polyclinic and a hospital, and we are supplying food. ...
