Condensed text:) A song has just died away-a winged song about brave hearts sung by cheerful young voices. And on the screen we see the familiar face of the favorite Soviet children's writer Arkady Gaidar. "Probably because I was still a young lad when I was in the army I would like to tell today's boys and girls what kind of a life that was and how it all began."

This is the beginning of the biography of A. Gaidar, wonderful artist and daring fighter for the revolution, in the new film "School of Courage,"* based on the story by the writer. ...

The limitations of the screen necessitated changes in the plot of the narrative and a basically simpler script. Script writers S. Rozen and K. Semyonov have coped with this difficult task. The compositional changes, introduction of new scenes and creation of the role of Verka, a vagabond, are not only justified but are closely interwoven in the fabric of the film. ...

The film shows with great force, genuineness and tension how the qualities of a true communist fighter are developed in a young man who grows up during the Civil War years. In his actions and exploits we see features typical of a whole generation of young people, inculcated in them by the Communist Party.

The picture is also of value because it is suffused from beginning to end with the principle of Party orientation and high ideological content in its art. The Party evaluation of every person and his actions, the meaning of the events in this legendary, heroic epoch are unfolded before the audience throughout the entire film. ...
